Precision on people – with the right light
Lash extensions, nail modelling, podiatry, permanent make-up, tattooing: working on people calls for steady hands, good light and a precise eye. Demand from these professions has grown markedly with us over recent years – from podiatry in particular.
The basics of lens strength are covered in detail in Focal length, magnification and working distance and in Which diopter suits you? – this article is about what makes this particular application special.
What these professions demand of a lamp
- Glare-free light for the client – the LEDs sit in a ring around the lens and light the working area, not the face of the person lying down
- Freely positionable – an articulated arm follows your working position without anything having to be rearranged
- Wipeable surfaces – in these professions hygiene is a duty, not a nicety
- Stability – at the treatment chair a roll stand is usually more practical than a table clamp
Which strength for which application?
| Application | Recommendation | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Lashes, permanent make-up | 5 diopters | a good balance of detail and overview |
| Nail modelling | 3–5 diopters | overview of the whole hand |
| Podiatry | 3 diopters | greater working distance at the foot |
| Finest detail work | 8 diopters | maximum magnification, small field |
Colour fidelity is not a detail
Anyone working with colour – pigments, polishes, skin tones – should pay attention to colour rendering. From Ra 90 upwards, the colour impression under the lamp largely matches the one in daylight. That saves you the nasty surprise when your client steps outside.
Frequently asked questions
Does the light bother clients while they are lying down?
Not when the lamp is aligned as intended – the light source points at the working area. If your clientele is particularly sensitive, choose a version with a warmer light colour.
Can the brightness be adjusted?
Not all models are dimmable. If that matters to you, tell us before you buy – we will let you know which version can do it.
I need several lamps for my studio.
Get in touch with the quantity, the colour you want and the diopter strength – we will quote and check whether we can supply a uniform batch.
